Schroders, a global asset management firm overseeing approximately $1.1 trillion in assets, is bringing an emerging-markets bond investment strategy to the Solana blockchain through a partnership with tokenization specialist Centrifuge.
The initiative allows the firm's Schroder International Selection Fund (SISF) Emerging Market Bonds strategy to be represented through an onchain share class. The development marks Schroders' first move onto Solana and expands the range of traditional financial products being introduced to blockchain infrastructure.
Schroders, which is headquartered in London and has a history spanning more than 200 years, reported approximately £867.8 billion ($1.1 trillion) in assets under management as of June 2026. The firm has more than 50 years of experience managing emerging-markets debt, supported by a team of over 40 investment professionals dedicated to the asset class.
How Schroders' Emerging Markets Fund Will Work on Solana
The investment strategy focuses on debt issued by governments and companies across emerging economies. This gives investors exposure to markets and currencies beyond the United States and Europe, with returns influenced by the performance of the underlying debt investments.
Centrifuge is providing the tokenization infrastructure for the initiative. The SISF structure is legally organized as a feeder fund with an onchain share class. It invests in Schroders' Emerging Market Bond Fund, meaning investors hold tokenized shares in the feeder vehicle rather than directly owning shares in Schroders' underlying fund.
The distinction is important because tokenization changes how fund interests can be represented and accessed, but it does not mean the underlying investment strategy or its assets become entirely different products. Investors remain exposed to the risks associated with emerging-market debt.
Why Tokenized Fixed Income Is Expanding Beyond Cash Products
The launch reflects a broader shift in the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization market. Early institutional activity has largely concentrated on tokenized US Treasury products and money market funds, which provide blockchain-based access to relatively short-duration, cash-like investments.
Data from RWA.xyz showed approximately $39 billion in distributed tokenized real-world assets as of November 4, 2026. Its tokenized Treasury funds dashboard separately recorded around $14.23 billion in value. These figures illustrate the significant role that government-backed and cash-management products continue to play in the sector.
Emerging-market bonds introduce a different investment profile. Their performance can depend on borrower creditworthiness, currency fluctuations, interest rates and economic conditions across developing economies. This gives investors exposure to risks and potential returns that differ from those associated with short-term government securities.
Anil Sood, chief strategy and growth officer at Centrifuge, highlighted this distinction.
"Until now, onchain fixed income has largely been built around cash and short-duration government securities," Sood said. "Emerging markets debt introduces a fundamentally different source of risk and return."
Centrifuge Provides the Tokenization Infrastructure
Centrifuge specializes in bringing traditional financial assets onto blockchain networks. Its infrastructure supports the issuance and management of tokenized investment products, allowing eligible investors to access fund shares through onchain systems.
The platform has reported more than $750 million in tokenized assets. Its Centrifuge application lists Schroder International Selection Fund EM Bond among its available investment products.
The platform's role is particularly relevant for institutional investment strategies because tokenizing a fund involves more than creating a digital representation of an asset. The legal structure, investor eligibility, fund administration and underlying investment management remain important parts of the arrangement.
John Mensack, senior investment director of fixed income at Schroders, said the company sees opportunities in bringing emerging-market debt to blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
"As the digital financial ecosystem develops, we also recognise the importance of bringing relevant emerging markets debt opportunities onchain, helping to make the asset class more accessible and fit for the future," Mensack said.
Schroders Expands Its Existing Tokenization Efforts
Although the Solana initiative represents Schroders' debut on the blockchain, it is not the company's first tokenization project.
In August 2026, Schroders obtained regulatory approval in Ireland for the tokenized share class of its US dollar money market fund, Schroders Onchain Active Returns (SOAR). The development marked an earlier step in the firm's efforts to introduce traditional investment products through blockchain-based structures.
The emerging-markets bond initiative extends that approach into a different part of fixed income. Rather than focusing exclusively on cash management, the strategy brings an actively managed debt portfolio linked to emerging economies into the tokenized investment ecosystem.
Nick Ducoff, head of institutional growth at the Solana Foundation, described the development as a sign of expanding institutional activity on public blockchains.
"The arrival of an asset manager like Schroders marks a new stage for onchain capital markets," Ducoff said. "We are moving beyond tokenized cash products toward a market where sophisticated, actively managed strategies can be issued, distributed and integrated on public blockchain infrastructure."
The Solana Foundation's real-world asset overview highlights the network's growing role in supporting tokenized funds, government securities, commodities and other traditional financial assets.
More Global Asset Managers Explore Tokenized Funds
Schroders is joining a growing group of established financial institutions exploring blockchain-based investment products.
Federated Hermes, a Pittsburgh-based investment manager overseeing approximately $911 billion in assets, announced plans in October 2026 to issue its first tokenized fund shares in early 2027.
New York Life's asset management division, which oversees more than $800 billion, has also entered the tokenization market through Centrifuge. Its initiative brings a high-yield corporate bond strategy onto blockchain infrastructure.
These developments demonstrate how tokenization is expanding across different areas of traditional finance, including government debt, money market products and corporate bonds.
Schroders' move adds emerging-market debt to that range. Its longer-term significance will depend on investor access, adoption and the ability of tokenized fund structures to operate alongside established financial markets.
