Solana Jumps 8% as Rally Pushes Above $100, but Overbought Risks Emerge

Solana surged above $100 on Tuesday, extending one of its strongest rallies in months as the broader cryptocurrency market continued to recover.

SOL climbed nearly 8% in 24 hours to trade just above $101, bringing its seven-day gain to roughly 35%. The move made Solana one of the strongest-performing major cryptocurrencies as Bitcoin pushed above $80,000 and Ether approached $2,500.

However, the sharp advance is also producing signs that the market may be becoming overheated.

A widely followed momentum indicator tracking recent gains against losses has moved into overbought territory, raising the possibility of a short-term pullback or consolidation.

Solana Breaks Above $100

Solana's latest rally has pushed the token decisively above the psychological $100 level, adding to a recovery that accelerated over the past week.

SOL had been trading near $75 earlier in the month before momentum accelerated alongside the broader cryptocurrency market.

The latest move comes as Bitcoin climbed above $80,000 and major altcoins extended their gains.

Among major cryptocurrencies:

  • SOL: above $101, up nearly 35% over seven days

  • ETH: near $2,500, up almost 32% weekly

  • BNB: near $714, up more than 2% on the day

  • XRP: above $1.50, up more than 52% weekly

  • DOGE: around $0.09, up roughly 32% weekly

Solana's performance has therefore been supported by both network-specific developments and a broader market-wide risk-on move.

SOL Momentum Enters Overbought Territory

The strength of Solana's move is also creating a technical warning.

Bitfire Research highlighted a momentum indicator that compares recent gains with recent losses on a scale from zero to 100.

The indicator is approaching the 78 area for Bitcoin, while the broader market's rapid appreciation suggests similar momentum risks across major crypto assets.

Readings above 70 are commonly considered overbought. Such readings do not necessarily mean prices must fall, but they can indicate that an asset has moved higher too quickly and may need time to consolidate.

Bitfire identified potential selling pressure around $78,500–$82,000 for Bitcoin, while estimated buying interest was concentrated around $72,400–$73,500.

For Solana, the key question is whether SOL can maintain its move above $100 after such a rapid advance.

A sustained hold above the level would strengthen the bullish structure, while a rejection could send the token back toward nearby support levels.

Solana Governance Could Reduce Future Supply

The latest SOL rally also comes as Solana validators vote on proposals that could change the network's future token economics.

Two proposals are particularly important for SOL supply.

One proposal would accelerate the reduction in Solana's annual inflation rate, reducing the pace at which new SOL enters circulation.

Another proposal would introduce changes to Solana's transaction fee structure that could significantly increase the amount of SOL burned through network activity.

If approved and eventually implemented, the changes could reduce future SOL issuance while increasing the amount of tokens removed from circulation.

Voting is scheduled to close on Thursday, making the governance process an important near-term catalyst for SOL.

Proposed Changes Could Support SOL Tokenomics

The potential combination of lower issuance and higher burns has attracted attention because it could change Solana's long-term supply dynamics.

Lower inflation would mean fewer new SOL tokens entering circulation over time.

At the same time, increased transaction-related burns could remove more SOL from the circulating supply.

However, the proposals are not an immediate change to Solana's token economics. Validator approval would first be required, followed by technical implementation and activation.

The ultimate effect would also depend on network activity.

Higher network usage could increase fee-related burns, while lower activity would reduce the number of tokens removed through transactions.

Treasury Policy Remains a Major Crypto Catalyst

Solana's move above $100 is also connected to the broader macroeconomic catalyst that pushed cryptocurrencies higher.

The latest rally began after the U.S. Treasury announced plans to increase its purchases of longer-dated Treasury securities.

The move helped ease concerns around rising long-term borrowing costs and pushed yields lower.

Lower yields can make risk assets more attractive because investors receive less compensation from holding government debt.

That environment can encourage capital to move toward higher-risk assets such as equities and cryptocurrencies.

The Treasury's actions have also revived discussion around the so-called debasement trade, in which investors seek scarce assets as protection against the potential erosion of fiat purchasing power.

Federal Reserve Speech Could Add Volatility

Markets are now turning toward the Federal Reserve for additional clues about monetary policy.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to speak at Jackson Hole on Wednesday, making the event an important focus for traders.

Interest-rate expectations can have a significant impact on cryptocurrency markets.

Lower interest rates generally make borrowing cheaper and can encourage investors to seek higher returns in risk assets. Higher rates can have the opposite effect by making government bonds relatively more attractive.

Any shift in expectations around future Federal Reserve policy could therefore influence SOL and the broader crypto market.

More Macro Catalysts Ahead

Solana traders also have several additional events to monitor.

These include:

  • The CLARITY Act legislative process

  • The SEC's consultation on its proposed crypto framework

  • The September Federal Reserve meeting

  • U.S. PCE inflation data

  • U.S. employment data

  • Solana's governance votes

The combination of macroeconomic and network-specific developments could produce significant volatility after SOL's rapid move above $100.

What Happens Next for Solana?

Solana's ability to hold above $100 could become an important technical test.

A sustained breakout above the psychological level would suggest that buyers remain in control and could open the door toward the next resistance zones.

However, the rapid 35% weekly advance means traders should also watch for profit-taking.

An overbought reading does not automatically signal a trend reversal. Strong cryptocurrencies can remain overbought for extended periods during powerful rallies.

The more important signal will be whether SOL can consolidate above $100 rather than immediately losing the breakout.

If buyers successfully defend the level, the recent rally could continue. If sellers push SOL back below it, the market could enter a period of consolidation before the next directional move.

Final Thoughts

Solana's move above $100 marks another major milestone in the current crypto recovery, with SOL gaining roughly 35% over seven days.

The rally has been supported by the broader risk-on environment, renewed interest in cryptocurrencies and potentially significant changes to Solana's token economics.

The upcoming governance votes are particularly important because proposals targeting lower SOL issuance and higher token burns could influence the network's long-term supply dynamics if approved and implemented.

At the same time, the speed of SOL's advance means traders need to watch for signs of overheating.

For now, $100 is the key psychological level to watch. Holding above it would strengthen the bullish case, while a rejection could trigger a period of consolidation after one of Solana's strongest weekly rallies in recent months.
