Solana Price Risks Pullback as MACD Turns Bearish

Solana trades near $95 after a 26% rally, but bearish MACD momentum and resistance near $98–$103 could trigger a short-term pullback.

Solana Price Risks Pullback as MACD Turns Bearish

Solana (SOL) is showing signs of short-term weakness after a powerful recovery pushed the token close to $100.

SOL traded near $94.70 on Aug. 24, up roughly 26% from around $75 earlier in the month. The rally was supported by a broader crypto-market recovery, improving U.S. regulatory sentiment and several Solana-specific developments, including new governance proposals and growing tokenized real-world asset activity.

However, momentum indicators are beginning to cool.

On the four-hour chart, the MACD has turned bearish, while SOL faces significant resistance between roughly $97.68 and $102.88. A failure to break this zone could send the token back toward nearby support levels.

Solana Price Holds Near $95 After Strong Rally

SOL climbed from approximately $75 to above $100 during the latest recovery before sellers pushed the price back toward the mid-$90s.

The token broke through the $83.49 and $88.06 Fibonacci retracement levels, measured from the $64.09 low to the $102.88 high.

After briefly moving above $100, SOL found selling pressure and retreated. Buyers subsequently defended the pullback, allowing the token to stabilize around $94.58.

SOL also remains above its 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-day moving averages. These averages were positioned between approximately $76.56 and $81.27, highlighting the strength of the recent move.

The technical structure therefore remains broadly bullish, but the sharp distance between the current price and its moving averages leaves room for consolidation.

What Is Driving the Solana Rally?

Several factors have contributed to SOL's recent strength.

One of the biggest catalysts has been improving sentiment around U.S. crypto regulation. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently proposed a framework called Regulation Crypto Assets, aimed at providing clearer regulatory treatment for certain crypto-related activities.

The proposal is not a Solana-specific approval, and it does not eliminate regulatory risks surrounding SOL. However, expectations for greater regulatory clarity have helped improve sentiment across major blockchain networks.

For more background, see the SEC's official website.

Solana has also received several network-specific catalysts.

Solana Governance Votes Could Change SOL Supply

Solana validators and delegators are currently voting on three major governance proposals: SGP-0001, SGP-0002 and SGP-0003.

The proposals cover network governance, SOL inflation and transaction fees.

SGP-0001 would establish the Solana Constitution as a framework for network-level governance.

SGP-0002 proposes increasing the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, accelerating the reduction in SOL issuance toward the network's existing terminal inflation rate.

According to the proposal's estimates, the change could result in approximately 18.9 million fewer SOL being emitted over six years compared with the existing schedule.

SGP-0003 proposes restructuring Solana's transaction fees by separating an inclusion fee from a resource fee. Under the proposed system, the resource component would be burned.

That could potentially increase SOL's burn rate if network activity remains strong.

The votes are important because changes to emissions and fee burning could affect SOL's long-term supply dynamics. However, approval would not automatically activate the changes; technical implementation would still be required.

Tokenized Assets Add Another Solana Catalyst

Solana's growing real-world asset ecosystem is another factor attracting attention.

Data from RWA.xyz showed tokenized assets on Solana surpassing $4 billion, while the number of RWA holders reached approximately 348,489.

The growth of tokenized assets could increase blockchain usage and institutional activity over time.

Solana has increasingly positioned itself as infrastructure for tokenized assets, stablecoins and other financial applications. However, the growth of tokenized assets does not automatically translate into higher SOL prices, meaning investors should distinguish network fundamentals from short-term market speculation.

SOL Faces Key Resistance at $98–$103

From a technical perspective, the most important area for SOL bulls is currently between $97.68 and $102.88.

SOL needs to establish a daily close above approximately $98.44 to strengthen the breakout setup.

A successful move above this region would put $100 back into focus and could open the path toward the recent high near $102.88.

Breaking above $102.88 would be technically significant because it would remove the most visible nearby resistance zone from the recent price structure.

However, repeated rejection from this region could increase the probability of a deeper correction.

MACD Signals Short-Term Weakness

While the broader trend remains strong, the four-hour MACD is flashing a warning.

The MACD line has fallen to approximately 2.59, below its signal line at 3.09, while the histogram has moved to around -0.50.

This bearish crossover suggests that short-term momentum is weakening.

Importantly, a bearish MACD signal does not automatically mean that SOL has entered a major downtrend. It can also appear during a healthy consolidation after a strong rally.

The key will be how price behaves around $94.58.

If buyers defend this level, SOL could regain momentum and challenge the $98–$103 resistance zone again.

If sellers push SOL below it, the next support area around $92.50–$93.25 could become important.

A deeper decline toward $88.06 would indicate that the recent breakout is losing strength.

Strong Trend Still Visible

Other technical indicators remain more constructive.

The Aroon Up indicator was around 85.71%, compared with 42.86% for Aroon Down. This suggests that recent highs continue to carry greater weight than recent lows.

The four-hour Average Directional Index (ADX) was also elevated near 71.50.

An ADX above 25 generally indicates a strong trend, although it does not determine whether that trend is bullish or bearish.

Together, these indicators suggest that SOL remains in a strong trend, even as short-term momentum begins to weaken.

Liquidation Levels Put $96 in Focus

The derivatives market is also worth watching.

CoinGlass data showed a significant concentration of leveraged positions around $96.20–$96.40.

If SOL moves above this area, short positions could face increased liquidation pressure, potentially helping the token move toward the $97.68–$98.44 resistance zone.

Additional liquidity appears between approximately $97 and $99.50.

On the downside, liquidation concentrations can be seen around $93 and between approximately $91.50 and $92.

These liquidation zones do not guarantee where SOL will trade next, but they can provide useful information about areas where leveraged positioning could amplify price movements.

What Traders Are Watching Next

The immediate question is whether SOL can maintain its position above $94.58 while short-term momentum resets.

A move back above $98.44 would strengthen the bullish setup and put $100 and $102.88 back in focus.

Conversely, losing $94.58 could expose SOL to $92.50–$93.25, followed by the more important $88.06 support level.

A break below $88.06 would significantly weaken the current recovery structure.

The governance votes also remain an important Solana-specific catalyst. Changes to SOL emissions and transaction-fee burning could influence long-term supply dynamics if the proposals receive sufficient support and are subsequently implemented.

Solana's Next Move Could Depend on $94–$98

SOL has delivered an impressive recovery, but the token is now approaching an important technical decision point.

The broader trend remains constructive, supported by SOL trading above its major moving averages, strong Aroon readings and elevated trend strength.

At the same time, the bearish four-hour MACD suggests that the market may need to consolidate before another attempt at the $100 level.

For bulls, the most important scenario would be a successful defense of $94.58, followed by a breakout above $98.44.

For bears, a sustained move below $94.58 would increase the risk of a deeper retracement toward $92, $88 and potentially $83.

Final Thoughts

Solana's latest rally has pushed SOL close to $100, but the market is now facing a critical resistance zone while short-term momentum begins to weaken.

The combination of strong network fundamentals, growing tokenized-asset activity, governance reforms and improving regulatory sentiment provides a constructive backdrop for Solana.

However, technical indicators suggest traders should be prepared for increased volatility.

The key levels are clear: $94.58 on the downside and $98.44–$102.88 on the upside.

A breakout above resistance could open the door to another leg higher, while a loss of support could trigger a deeper pullback.

For now, SOL remains bullish on the broader trend, but the short-term setup is becoming more cautious.
